A New 4th of July Celebration

Happy Independence Day to all! Casa Esperanza doesn't celebrate the 4th of July the way we do back home, but we had another reason to celebrate: Jacob's (Willie and Patti's son's) birthday was today and he turned 9! They had a big family party for him yesterday, but our boys made cards for him and had a present for him when he got home from school.

First, we started the day with a beautiful sunrise over the mountains. I know this may seem a little backward to those living in Denver who are used to seeing the sunset over the mountains. But it was truly beautiful.

Today was another day at Casa Esperanza. We started out with a warm welcome and went to work. We had four projects for the day. The first thing was to move more rocks. Next was shelling some sort of bean or pea while Greg took apart wood that wasn't needed. Finally, we dug some holes for some trees donated by a neighbor living near the church next door.

For lunch, we had lentils and hot dogs. The lentils were delicious. For dessert we had a banana kind of cake. After awhile we had snack which was Leche A... (I don't recall but it was milk, egg, and vanilla, almost like a flan).

Then we left and took the hour and a half ride back home.

Kristin left for Argentina today and will be back tomorrow. This post was written by Noah and Griffin with the help of Dad. We thank you for your continued prayers. Please pray for strength to help us make it through this time without our spiritual princess.

  2. The 4th of July was great in Colorado! Beautiful weather and we enjoyed our trip to vested butte however the wildflowers were not as good as usual! We were a little early! Still snow in mts and rivers running high! We took two hikes and that was great fun as they were easy hikes for aunt Linda! We love hearing about your adventures! We know it is not an easy lifestyle down there but sounds like you are all doing great! We think about you often and hope you will continue to be safe, well, and helping others to your satisfaction ,
    Love you guys!

  3. Hi Aunt Linda and Uncle Ed, glad that Crested Butte was nice. Speaking of wildflowers, we have seen a lot of hummingbirds here. That's interesting, because it's winter here. But some of the flowers they like are still in bloom here even in winter, and they make a beautiful chirping sound. Today we saw about 6 of them at once! Thanks for reading our blog and for all your encouragement! It's just as you say - life is not easy, but we are learning so much and love being here. There are some things we are getting very attached to here - like bakeries! There are bakeries EVERYWHERE!
